INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1. Fold floral stripe strip in half along length; crease. Measure 4" along sides from bottom corners of strip and make a mark as shown in Figure 1; cut off corners from marks to center crease on bottom edge, again referring to Figure 1.

Step 2. Sandwich the batting between the backing and the fabric strip; pin or baste layers together to hold flat for quilting.

Step 3. Using contrasting quilting thread, machine-quilt over the layers in a desired pattern. Note: Flower and leaf motifs were outlined using coordinating rayon and metallic thread on the sample.

Step 4. When quilting is complete, trim batting and backing edges even with the quilted top.

Step 5. Cut two 2 ¼" by fabric width strips coordinating fabric. Join strips on short ends to make one long strip. Fold strip along length with wrong sides together; press.

Step 6. Sew binding strip to bell pull edges with raw edges matching, mitering corners and overlapping beginning and end; turn to the backside. Hand or machine-stitch in place.

Step 7. Cut a 6½" x 2½" strip for hanging pocket; press under ¼" on all edges. Machine-stitch folded ends to hem.

Step 8. Position the strip on the top backside of the bell pull; hand- stitch in place for rod pocket.

Step 9. Add buttons, ribbon flowers and accents, beads and decorating notions to the right side of the bell pull as desired.

Step 10. Hand-stitch a tassel to the pointed end of the bell pull and to each end of the ¼" cord. Use fabric glue to secure.

Step 11. Slip the bell pull onto the wooden rod.

Step 12. Loop and knot ends of cord to the wooden rod; secure in place using fabric glue.
